Pokemon Academy: Flying-Type
Birds, Bugs, and Battle Star Galactica….oops, I mean Bats are the three types of flying animals. Sure, there are flying fish, flying squirrels and other “flying” animals, but these are all just gliders. We used the different flying Pokémon types to learn about different flying animals and all things aviation.
Here is the link to download our Intro Sheet that we used to introduce flying-type Pokémon and discuss vocabulary that they use relative to flying
We used this sheet in several ways
Print, review, and discuss the different Pokémon and learning objectives associated with each one.
Cut out and use as math manipulative
Cut out and place individual Pokémon into books with related topics (Ex: I cut out Charizard and Garados and put them in the book “Amy Wu’s Patch Work Dragon” to learn a bit about eastern and western dragons but also tie it back to Pokémon. The girls had fun “catching” the suprise Pokémon that they found as we read.)
Cut out, write reading words on the back, and use them for reading games
Cut them out, hide them around the house or yard, and search for them like a scavenger hunt
Hands on Activities
Butterfly Symmetry Painting - We globbed paint onto one side of a butterfly print-out. Then we folded it together to create a symmetrical picture. We used these butterfly printables. The smaller ones worked best so that the paint didn’t dry before we could press it together to create a symmetrical picture.
